Sarah and Joel’s Sapphire Point Wedding

We love when our couple’s make their wedding days totally their own, and so we were thrilled when Sarah and Joel invited us to photograph their intimate wedding ceremony at Sapphire Point near Breckenridge, Colorado. The weather was threatening rain the entire morning, but graciously held off until we we were finished with portraits just next to the Snake River Arm of Dillon Reservoir.

After, we drove up Swan Mountain Road to Sapphire Point overlooking the reservoir. The resulting cloudy sky made for a perfect, dramatic backdrop.

Kate and Jim’s Evergreen Lake House Wedding

Earlier this summer, we had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Anya’s cousin Kate and her now-husband Jim at the Evergreen Lake House in the foothills outside Denver. The wedding was small and intimate — with a handful of family and friends on hand to witness the day under a bright sun with Evergreen Lake and the mountains serving as our backdrop. We walked around the lake afterward for portraits of the bride and groom. Katie showcased her joy throughout the day and Jim was good with quick laughs and jokes (Jim and Dan hit it off from the first meeting for their shared interest in — nerd alert! — data and computer systems).

After the first dance and dances with mother and father, the groomsmen threw down a coordinated dance for the guests. Toasts from family and friends (including the bride’s sister-in-law Ellery whose wedding to Kevin just a few years back we also loved photographing) were heartfelt and poignant, and we even had a chance — at the request of the bride — to put down our cameras, dance and enjoy the company of friends and family.

Aaron and Lisa’s Chautauqua Park Engagement in Boulder

When you’re a professional wedding photographer in Denver, and the time comes for your own family and siblings to get engaged and married, you expect to get the call. We’ve been photographing weddings and engagements for years, and I thought this would be an easy enough outing for Anya and me. But when it’s your own sister and her fiancé Aaron, the expectations are much higher for doing great work.

Lisa and Aaron both live in New Jersey, where I grew up, but much of Aaron’s family is in Colorado, so they visit a few times per year to see them and enjoy our wonderful outdoors. I was in Kazakhstan doing consulting work when Lisa called me with the news about her engagement, and we set right away to planning an engagement session at Chautauqua Park in Boulder.

Amanda and Michael’s History Colorado Center Wedding

Earlier this fall, we had a fabulous time photographing the wedding of Amanda and Michael. (You will recognize them from their Washington Park engagement session in the spring.) These two radiated such a happiness and joy for their wedding day, their upcoming marriage, and their loved ones who were present to celebrate with them, it was a privilege to document.

Amanda and Michael chose the History Colorado Center in Denver for both their ceremony and reception. Our own wedding reception took place at the center in 2013—we have so many fond memories there; it’s a great venue — and it was lovely returning there for a wedding on the other side of the cameras. Before the museum, we enjoyed playing with the majestic and classic backdrop of the Civic Center Park amphitheater for their first look, as well as pre-ceremony portraits with the wedding party and family.

Lakewood Maternity Photos: Amy Beth and Chris

This was the fourth time I had the privilege of photographing Amy Beth and Chris. And may I just say, it’s pretty wonderful to get to document the progression of a couple’s life together.

We first met AB + C in 2015, when they hired us to photograph their wedding. They took Dan and I to South Broadway for their engagement pictures; to Copper Mountain for their wedding; and to a hip little cafe in Denver for their reception. Then a few months after they said their “I dos,” they asked if we could take some portraits of the two of them and their sweet, elderly dog, Mali.

Fast forward to this year and an email awaiting me one day announcing that Amy Beth and Chris were pregnant with their first kiddo. Strike that: kiddos, for she was expecting twins! We set up a time to get together for a maternity shoot before the two little ones arrive. Here are a few of the photos we made.

Thank you for inviting me along to further document your life story together, Amy Beth and Chris! So excited to welcome the twins to the world this fall!
