Collin had picked out the spot — the moon gate at the PlantAsia section of the Denver Botanic Gardens.
That’s where he would propose to Erin, his girlfriend of one-and-a-half years.
As I do with all surprise proposals, Collin and I talked and texted for several weeks to plan the timing and location. Once I got in position — posing as the unassuming tourist with a very large camera taking pictures of flowers — he moved to the gate, holding Erin’s hand.
He got down on one knee, and Erin gasped — genuinely surprised. Without hesitation, she said yes.
The Gardens that day weren’t very crowded thanks for our timing for doing this on a weekday. But the fall colors were still in bloom, and we had the entire place nearly to ourselves.
